Shopping to encourage fitness is easy and fun. Just think of how much of a boost you’ll be giving your loved one to get fit or stay fit. I’ve rounded up some great ideas that cover all price ranges. And, if you happen to get something for yourself along the way, well… it’ll be our secret.

  1. A Peloton bike. Let’s start by addressing the elephant in the room. After its latest TV ad caused a controversy, Peloton says it’s not worried about sales slowing down. Its premium bike isn’t priced for everyone, of course. But if you’re in that spending tier, then why not start at the top and make it easy on yourself? Starting at $2245. Another popular option for mature exercisers is a NuStep, which allows for seated stepping and also works the upper body. This is a bigger elephant, starting at $3945.
  2. A fitness tracker. Wearable tech ranks as the No. 1 fitness trend for the coming year, and you can find devices at many price points. The Apple Watch 5 remains the gold standard with a range of activity features and even heart-monitoring technology. It starts at $399. If you’re looking for something at a lower price point, check out one of the FitBit models. I personally use the Charge 2 and like it; the *Charge 3 is regularly $149.95.
  3. A Theragun. These hand-held massage devices, above, made a big splash and have been showing up in gyms and studios everywhere. They offer deeper muscle treatment to soothe chronic and acute pain, release tension and soreness, and improve circulation, flexibility and sleep. From $249.
  4. Daily Harvest Gift Box. Smoothies, soups, harvest bowls – all full of fresh, healthy ingredients – will be delivered so the recipient can mix for easy eating. Send a nine-item box for $75.
  5. Support wear. Compression garments are available for just about every body part. A common need is in the knee joint, and the RiptGear Compression Knee Sleeve ranks high for support and pain relief. There are many choices depending on need, but this is a good starting point. *From $27.95.
  6. “Destinations of a Lifetime.” Travel is one of the strongest motivations to stay in shape later in life. This magnificent photography book from National Geographic can help plan a trip or enjoy armchair adventures.
