How Working With a Personal Trainer Can Save You Money

We’ve all done it.

You decided to start a “do-it-yourself” project only to find that it took much longer and cost much more than you anticipated, primarily because you lacked the knowledge and experience to do it efficiently and effectively. After repeatedly struggling and failing to achieve the result you were hoping for, you end up calling a professional to finish the job. What’s even more frustrating is that you finally realize it would have been cheaper and faster to hire a professional in the first place. That’s right, a working with a professional Personal Trainer can save you money!

This scenario plays out on a regular basis with home improvement projects, auto repair, and fitness programs. So how can hiring a professional Personal Trainer help you achieve your health and fitness goals in a cost effective manner? You want a physical change, and a Personal Trainer is the professional who can help you achieve that change in the most effective and efficient manner. Here’s how:

The first thing that I do with a new client is a fitness assessment. This includes reviewing the client’s health history, exercise and lifestyle habits, listening to what their goals are, measuring blood pressure, body composition, doing a submaximal VO2 test, flexibility and musculoskeletal screening, etc. Athletes get additional assessments such as maximal strength, power, agility, speed, etc depending on their specific sport and goals. From the assessment, I know exactly where my client is starting from – what their specific needs are, whether their goals are realistic, their likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, etc. I also have a measuring stick to compare future results so that I know if the exercise program that I design for them is working as well as it should be.

Based on the assessment results, I can then design a customized program  to get them exactly where they want to go. Think of it as giving directions on a map: the assessment tells me where they are starting from, their goals tell me where they want to go. It’s up to me to tell them how to get from point A to point B in the most efficient manner.

Without the assessment or map, most do-it-yourselfers end up wandering aimlessly by doing someone else’s workout and hoping for the best (usually without success) rather than following a customized program that has been designed for their specific needs. They’ve wasted time, perhaps gotten injured in the process, and are frustrated because what they were doing for the last several months didn’t work.

How much is your health and fitness worth to you? Save yourself some time and money – reap the rewards of hiring a professional in the first place.
