How to get Professional Personal Training on a Budget

It’s well documented that people who hire professional Personal Trainers have greater success at achieving their fitness goals and with less chance of getting injured in the process. Note that I said professional Personal Trainers – those like myself with an advanced college degree in the field, multiple credible certifications, and years of proven experience. While investing in improvements to your health today will save you BIG money down the line, it can be tough to find room in your budget to meet with a qualified trainer on a regular basis. Don’t be tempted to skimp a few bucks by going with one of the many low end fitness franchises or unqualified individuals offering personal training here in the Twin Cities. Many charge dirt cheap rates which may sound attractive, but buyer beware. Minnesota does not require licensure or certifications for Personal Trainers, so anyone can claim to be one. Just read the want ads – the only requirements for some gyms are a GED and a willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends for $10 an hour and no benefits. Is that who you want designing your program, especially if you have a chronic medical condition or are recovering from surgery? This can end up costing you much more in the long run, especially if you get injured. You want someone who knows what they’re doing! So, you’d love to have a professional trainer help you with your health and fitness goals, but money is tight. How can you afford professional personal training on a budget and still get a high quality experience?

On a tight budget?

I can help! Here are a few options for you to consider:

1) Buddy up. If you and a buddy have compatible goals and abilities, it’s cheaper per person and you still get LOTS of individual attention during the workout. My rates for one-on-one training start at &75 / hour, but partner training starts at only $110 for both of you, or $55 per person.

2) Split a session. This is even cheaper than partner training – you and a buddy each get one-on-one training for half an hour instead of the full hour. This is especially popular with older or elderly couples who can’t tolerate a full hour long workout, but it’s a cost effective option for anyone. Since I bill an hour minimum at the single rate, there would need to be at least two of you at the same location. But if you do your warm up, cool down, cardio, stretching, etc on your own, you can just work with me for the “meat and potatoes” part of the workout. Starts at $37.50 per person.

3) See me less frequently. How often you need face time with your trainer depends on lots of factors, but if you can spread out your sessions to twice a month instead of twice a week, you’ll still have access to professional instruction at a considerable savings. This does NOT mean that you only work out twice a month, it DOES mean that you’ll need to do more on your own. Don’t worry, I’ll email you a PDF of the workout that I want you to do that will include pictures and descriptions of the exercises to help you remember how to do the everything correctly. This option only works if you are motivated enough to actually do the workouts I give you, as frequently as I tell you, at the proper intensity, and you are experienced enough so that you’re doing the exercises with proper form.

4) Small Group Training. If you have a location and a small group, I can come to you for group training. Rates vary depending on the group size, but it’s the cheapest per session option to get face time with me. This is a popular option for small businesses that are trying to start a wellness program at their work site, or sports teams (adult or youth) that want strength and conditioning or injury prevention programs.

5} Online Coaching. You can get a customized program for a fraction of what it costs to meet with me face to face via online methods. Assessments can be done via FaceTime and you get your program delivered to you via the member portal on this website or an app on your phone or tablet.

As you can see, I offer something for every budget to make affordable access to a qualified Fitness Professional easy for anyone. And effort is free! Call me today if you’d like to discuss which option is best for you!
